The Idea

From growing up on a farm in southern Missouri to working on aircrafts during WW II, as well as jobs as a butcher and county commissioner, Glen’s formative years greatly prepared him with the skills and expertise necessary to make significant impacts in the pork industry. Glen is a driven and committed man who managed to graduate from the University of Missouri in only two years. He later served as a professor and livestock marketing specialist at his alma mater for over 58 years.

One of the most dramatic changes in the U.S. pork industry was the transition from over one million hog farms in the late 1960′s to fewer than 100,000 by 1999. Mr. Grimes began a long series of triennial national surveys of the structure of the hog industry in 1975. These surveys positioned Glen as the national expert on the structural change in the hog industry.
